VHF Contest July 2018

We started assembling the stations on Friday and did not experience any problems so that we could start right in time on Saturday. Like always in July we erected four towers with 4 x 9 elements for 144Mhz and one tower with 4 x 4 x 9 elements for 432Mhz.

 

Unlike last year we enjoyed 27°Centigrade and exceptionally low winds. The sky was blue and sun protection factor 50 was obligatory. It was quite hot and now and then we took the liberty of taking breaks but we finished our job just right in time.

 

Despite the nice weather the conditions seemed to be quite flat at the beginning but they were improving during the night so that we could establish a few nice additional contacts to UK and Ireland on 144Mhz and 432Mhz.

 

A good example for elevated conditions towards the British isles was GW1YBB/p from IO81. He has managed to work us with no more than 5W output from his FT817 and a 9el. DK7ZB Yagi...QRB -> 925km! Well done Steve and thank you for your patience!

 

ODX worked on 2m + 70cm was EI9E/p at a distance of 1179Km. These nice results had to be celebrated and in the meantime the rest of the crew was enjoying some classy Wasserkuppe barbecue.

 

On Sunday morning we welcomed some visitors from DR9A (DL8AAU, DL8RI, DL2OCB, assistant-OP Matthias) who supported us with some interesting microwave activity on 13cm, 10Ghz and 24Ghz. Thank you guys!
